Rant du Jour: Dog Fighting…

Many of you know that I’m the very happy and proud owner of an American Pit Bull Terrier. This type of dog gets a lot of guff because of several cowards–worldwide, but particularly in the United States–like to train them for violence, put them in a ring, and make them kill one another.

Last night I stumbled across a site that was put up by some sick bastard who is fighting dogs, but also breeding and selling fighting dogs for the purpose of fighting. He probably makes a fair amount of money for them, too.

This sick bastard (technical term for a dog fighter) had photos on his site of dogs fighting, dogs that he was selling telling potential buyers what their stats in the ring are, and he had several “RIP” pages where he was mourning the loss of dogs that HE HIMSELF put in the ring, but who lost.

I also, today, signed a petition against breed-specific legislation, but also attached a note to it stating that I do support making dog fighting a felony with mandatory minimum sentences similar to murder. Those who fight dogs are murderers, and belong in jail.

Know how to report dog fights!
Please read up on how to combat animal fighting and cruelty on the left sidebar of my blog. Also, contact the ASPCA prior to purchasing any dog to find out if there have been any complaints against the breeder for animal cruelty.

Listening, reading and watching the media over the past month or so, you’d think dog fighting is very pervasive. I think it probably is NOT…at least I hope not. Inhuman and reprehensible as it is, I think the media is making a bigger issue out of it than it deserves. I do think we should fight it and prosecute the SOB’s who are involved in it, but I just don’t think it’s that pervasive. DO YOU ALL?
