I think it is wrong for any person of any race to vote for someone based on the color of the candidates skin. I am from MS where racism still exist like in most all states. Most all black people I know are voting for Obama, but when they are asked one simple question about his campaign or what he stands for they cant answer it except for he is black so I am voting for him. I am white and Obama won me over with his debates and what he stands for, but stupid ignorant people that vote without knowing anything about him except for what they see with their two eyes is ridiculous.

Rothjj: That's an incorrect view of racism. People are voting for Obama because they can identify with him. For blacks, that does have something to do with the color of his skin. This is the same reason why so many won't vote for Obama. Your argument is kinda silly and over-simplified.

My measure of racism is: would you be voting for that candidate if they were black/white/whatever? If the answer is no, you're racist.

So: would all the 80% of black people be voting for Obama if he was white?
Absolutely not.

Yeah I think we basically agree. Your first paragraph basically is my point; it's not his skin color really, it's his actions and positions.

Except that you're forgetting that much of Obama's work has been helping causes that affect a great number of Americans, especially black Americans. Poverty, workers' rights, civil rights, education, community out-reach, the guy has done quite a bit to attract a lot of the right type of attention.

Now, I would agree that if they're voting based on skin color then it would be racism, but I would actually say that that is still less racism than what has kept blacks from participating in these races for so long in the first place.

I think the #1 reason why folks are calling the Obama campaign racist is because they're scared of the #2 demographic voting for Barack Obama: white males. The white supremacists are very scared that white males are voting for a black candidate, and in greater numbers than normally participate in primaries and caucuses. These people are afraid of losing ground. They've taught people for so long that blacks had a lesser brain capacity, or are somehow less human or less-evolved. These people are on the verge of losing the arguments that they've been working so hard to make, and I imagine it's only natural that they grasp at these idiotic straws.

I look forward to watching people like David Duke squirm under an Obama presidency. I also hope that the Secret Service solicits some of the quickest and best soldiers to protect Obama so that anybody who gets the wise idea of trying something stupid learns the error of their ways.

I've thought about this a bit. I only partially agree with you. Conservatives voting for Bush is someone voting for him based on his views. White people voting for a white candidate or black people voting for a black candidate is voting because of the color of their skin. Now, it depends what their reasoning is. If their reasoning is, "He's black, I'm black, I should vote for my kind and support my people", I think it's somewhat racist. Someone saying to a black person, "You're black, shouldn't you be voting for Obama?" is clearly racist, I imagine we both agree on that. However, a black person saying "I generally agree with Hillary and Obama, but I think that Obama understands what it's like to be black in this country more than Hillary ever can, so I think Obama is the better choice" is not racist, because it's not the color of their skin that matters, but the understanding of living with that that comes with it. Same goes for women and Hillary, of course.
