Blacks Voting for Racism

Hey folks, I just wanted to take a moment out to talk to people who are coming from Google about some disturbing trends I’m seeing in my search logs.

I get about 100-200 hits per day with Google search terms “blacks voting for racism” or some variation on that, and it’s kind of pissing me the hell off.  The very notion that you can accuse a black person of racism because the candidate is black is like saying everybody who votes for a white person who is white is voting for that person because they’re white.

If you are one of the people who genuinely believes that blacks vote for Barack Obama based on his ethnicity, there are two points I’d like to just drive home.  First, Barack Obama’s mother is actually white… so this means that not only is he half black, but he’s also half white… so why aren’t you accusing me of racism for being a white person voting for a man who is half-white?

Second, contrary to whatever ignorant fear-mongers may say, there are actually two black candidates in this election.  Barack Obama is one, Cynthia McKinney is the other, and she’s running on the Green Party ticket… a party which actually has been growing quite a bit over the last few years.  See more about that here: http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/campaign-2008/2008/02/15/a-look-at-other-black-presidential-candidates-before-obama.html

If you believe Barack Obama is being supported by blacks on the basis of race, you’re an ignorant douche.  Or maybe you’re a racist for supporting John McCain.

Yes, thanks for correcting me. This has been fixed :)

That’s what happens when you write while you’re still pissed.

Don’t you think, though, that SOME blacks ARE voting for him based on race? You haven’t seen that video where they attribute McCain’s policies to Obama and everyone is like I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT. And do you think Palin was a good running mate for Obama? Yes. Maybe I’m an ignorant douche.

Estella: I won’t recognize any such generalities. I haven’t met a single person who was voting for Obama because he is black. I think Palin is a ridiculous running mate for anyone. I think she’s an idiot and should go back to screwing up Alaska and leave the national politics to the those who are actually capable of intelligent thought.

I agree with you on your last point though… Maybe you are an ignorant douche.

Well Ive agreed with everything you’ve ever said, so I can’t be THAT much of an ignorant douche. I was just saying, I’m sure there are SOME people who are voting for the wrong reasons–like those that are voting for mccain because obama is a “terrorist.”

I do not agree that you can make any generalization that blacks are voting for Obama due to racism anymore than you can make the generalization that whites are voting for McCain due to racism. I don’t think it’s appropriate to say that it’s going on when there’s not enough evidence that any generality is applicable.

There is a *SIGNIFICANT* portion of people who are coming to my blog looking for evidence that blacks are voting for Obama in droves as some sort of justification to marginalize Obama.

I refuse to acknowledge that *SOME* are voting for reasons of race because doing so–at least in the minds of the ignorant douches–justifies their bad behavior. I would agree that there are some people who are voting based on race, but I won’t speculate on what their ethnicity is or who their racism leads them to vote on.

Are you also going to get mad at me if I mention that my schizophrenic neighbor is displaying a McCain Palin yard sigh?

Nope. My parents seem bent on supporting McCain, so I feel your pain. Thank God I’m in a blue state.
